Income Generation | Chisila Case Study

ChisilaThe AIDS Action Club in Chisila, started off by rearing chickens. They gave chicks to members of the community who paid them back in chicks at a later stage, but community members still had their own chickens to provide meat and eggs. By selling the eggs, the community made some profit and branched out into goat rearing. The profit from that enabled them to upgrade their heard to a breed that was more resistant to disease. As the community pulled together they managed to generate enough income to start a pre-school, to educate all the children in the community for whom there were no places at government schools. The children were educated about HIV/AIDS as well, and as the pupils took up places in government schools, they were found to be ahead academically and far more HIV/AIDS competent than their peers!
